There were two reasons why I want to start an annual medical checkup routine
- I’m Thirty years old; and
- As Malaysian, I get tax relief benefit for the year.
I went to Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital, as I have a record there and also near to my place. But only one comment though, the Wellness Doctor is not so helpful in explaining what happening and what to do. I thought wellness doctors suppose to be friendly and also able to answer any question from customer / patient. But in this case, she just mention if you feel pain go to Emergency Department. That comment is not so helpful. Well, I will try somewhere else next year.
I took the following package, which include screenings :
Women Cancer Screening, WCS @ RM 340.00
- Consultation by Wellness Doctor
- Body Mass Index
- Blood Pressure
- Vision Test
- Blood Glucose & Cholesterol
- Cancer Marker, CEA & CA125
- Breast Examination
- Pelvis Examination
- Pap Smear
- Ultrasound Pelvis
- Ultrasound Breast / Mammogram
- Medical Report
I had to go twice to complete the whole test. Due to miscommunication, because when I called the assistant said to come after 10 or 12 days from my last day of last period, when I came the doctor said, that there is no use for me to do pap smear as you’re suppose to do pap smear 3 days after you complete your period or 10 days after the first day your last period. So, the first visit, I only did, blood test (Glucose and Cancer Marker), Blood Pressure, Vision Test, Breast and Pelvis examination and also ultrasound pelvis and breast. In order to do pelvis ultrasound, I need to drink water (A lot of water) in order for the bladder to be able to push the pelvis and the ultrasound can pick the image of the pelvis (ovary, uterus, bladder). If bladder is empty, the sonographer will hardly see the pelvic organs.
Supposedly, you can get the medical report after 5 days but as I didn’t do my pap smear, I came after my next period cycle and pickup the report then. When I pick up the report, I was shocked when I found out I had cyst on my left breast and also my left ovary. It was small, but still shocking for me. As I always thought that I’m fine and I don’t feel a thing at those areas. However, the Cancer Marker came back negative so I ruled out cancer. Still, I’m unsure what type of cyst I’m having, I went for further checkup with specialist. In order for me to reimburse the expenses with specialist, I need to go to Medical Insurance panel clinic and get a referral letter. (what a hassle) But luckily, I have a family doctor that is a panel clinic and inform him what happened and showed him the letter from the Wellness Clinic. The doctor said, let’s check on your ovary first as the cyst in my breast is quiet small. So the doctor fill up a referral form and I just went to my OBGYN when I had my baby.
When I went to my OBGYN, he was rambling that the medical checkup can cause unnecessary concerns. So to ruled out any big issue, he did the normal ultrasound which only scan the pelvic area again. He did not see anything, then to be very sure, he asked me whether can he perform vaginal scan. I said go ahead so that to ruled out any concerns. The vaginal scan is like a big stick (it called as probe) with rubber wrap around it (look like a white long penis with condom). But, he did not stick it inside of me that deep and for a married woman it feel just fine. He did’t look inside or at my vagina, he just look at his screen. So no worries about OBGYN look at your vagina, as my OBGYN is very experienced and know where the vagina is when you bend your knees.
He was shocked to see that I have a lot of small cysts in my ovary left and right, and I was shocked too. So, he diagnosed me with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). He asked a few question to make sure i.e. How long is my period ; not long sometimes 3 – 5 days only and Is my period regular ; no. Then, he mentioned that I have a classic case of PCOS.
Then, he mention that is one of the reason why I had miscarriage last year because my hormone is imbalance (that is one of the cause when having ovary with PCOS).
Part 2 coming soon..
